Family Life

My wife, Sabine, and I have been together since 2004. We have experienced our share of ups and downs, but she has always been my rock through life’s stormy waters. We were married in August 2019, and we have a son named Alex. I also consider Sally, though not my biological son, to be just as much my own. Sally works for the local government and trains in with me Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ); he has already earned his blue belt and is on the way to purple.

My son Eric is an open-minded individual who lives in Nuremberg and is quite the computer whiz, which comes as no surprise given that both his mother and I are network engineers. Alex is an athlete currently attending a sports school in Halle/Saale, where he rigorously trains in rowing. He competes in various boats and aspires to participate in the Olympic Games, either in 2028 or 2032. Recently, his eight-man crew won the bronze medal at the 2024 World Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario, finishing behind the UK and USA.

I strive to provide a comfortable life for my family and take great pride in all of my children.

Working Life & History
My Professional Journey

My professional journey has been quite an adventure. Here’s a brief overview of my education and experience:

I began my career as a farmer trainee in September 1989. However, when the border opened, I decided to explore the opportunities in the new world rather than continue farming. In those early years, I took on various jobs, including car painting, home building, and drywall construction.

Life Behind the Keyboard

My passion for technology ignited in 1989 when I started playing on a C64 with friends. I was more fascinated by the technology behind the games than the games themselves. I began coding by typing out programs from C64 magazines and soon got my first Atari in 1990. In 1993, a friend brought a PC 286 to my home, and I quickly became captivated by it. After spending months playing and modding, I grew bored with games and began learning about MS-DOS, spending countless nights tweaking the autoexec.bat and config.sys files. I eventually had to pay 500 DM to fix the PC after a virus wreaked havoc. In 1995, a friend introduced me to Windows NT 3.1, and I fell in love with its stability and speed. Soon after, I started working as a System Engineer for Microsoft Servers and Workstations at Deutsche Telekom in Frankfurt. Since then, I’ve held various roles as a Network Engineer for companies such as Dresdner Bank, Commerzbank, Allianz, Deutsche Post, Siemens, Cable & Wireless, MicroStaxx, and DIS AG/Vion IT Services. Currently, I work as a Network Engineer at HCD Consulting GmbH.

Throughout my career, I've developed expertise in networking, WiFi, and Unix-based systems, earning certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, Juniper, HP, RedHat, and more. I continually renew my Juniper certifications and focus on network design work. I am grateful to my family, friends, and colleagues for their unwavering support. Special thanks to Michael Krämer for introducing me to the IT world, Bernd Schärf for teaching me about networks, and Malgorzata Kurc for encouraging me to learn English. My current inspirations are Guan Deng, a networking guru, Florian Seffert, a visionary in ideas and crypto, and Alex Jauns, a remarkable salesman and the namesake of my son Alex.

I’m diving deeper into the world of WiFi, aiming for CWNE and beyond. It’s a challenging journey, but I’m ready for the challenge.

Sports Life

As a kid, I was a pretty good athlete in running and jumping. I also did weightlifting for 7 years and tried Judo, up to Orange Belt, but it was not my sport. During my teen years, I started Muay Thai and did it until the end of the 90s. However, skydiving became much more interesting and fun for me. In 2008, I found my way back into fighting sports and started with kickboxing, but I wanted more. I discovered a cage where some guys were grappling, so I tried it and fought MMA for a period of time, but suddenly the school closed.

I moved for work to Hannover and after a few approaches to other schools, I came to the FightSchool Hannover. There, I started with Luta Livre under David Polokay and Murad. In the evenings, a crowd of people in pajamas (GI's) would come in for the BJJ class with Douglas Mayer. Since those days in early 2016, I have been a BJJ fighter with heart and soul. At the end of 2018, I got my blue belt and moved back to my hometown. Currently, I train BJJ at Halle and wherever I come by. On July 8th, 2022, I got my purple belt at Halle/Saale.

My heroes in these sports are not the Gracies and Miyao brothers or whoever - it's more the hidden ones like Heather Raftery, Christian Graugart, Dr. Andreas Fischer, Tijana Novoselic, Frank Burczynski, Onur Yasar, Markus Schnitter, and Raul Va who inspire me.
